Codford St Mary

Codford St Mary is a typical countryside county where Britons retire to and lead a quiet, meaningful life; away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Sara says that the British love to reside at such places while others squeeze themselves in London !

The ride from Reading to Codford St Mary was more than an hour; in fact close to two as we had to be led by a mere map. After getting into the right turnings it was an easy find.

On the way; the familiar sight of undulating plains came into view and some of the fields were grown with maize and wheat.

This scenario was a reminder of the trip we made the previous year with the other 2 sisters...the Henge.

Dad said in his younger days, the stone henges could be felt and touched by passersby.
Today they build a fence around them.

Tourists and the like can only see but not touch them...

Very soon we drove into the quaint village with cottages of thatched roofs.

Chimneys are but part and parcel of the houses.

How do you like this?
Fancy staying beside it all day long?

Dad's old pal told him that scarecrow competitions like those above are held every summer. Those are ones made during last summer by the village folks.Competitions like this hold the community together.

Vincie sent this to me and said that this was the winning scarecrow for 2012.
The house owner is indeed creative and has put in a lot of thought and effort.

In Codford St Mary, Little Orchard is the name of the abode of dad's old pal.
The apple tree is found in the orchard.

Last year, we saw the beautiful wild ducks swimming in the stream beside Little Orchard.

Last year the whole family visited Little  Orchard. This year a tremendous transformation has occurred and we will see the changes in the next episode. One thing did not change... we saw the Abbots and mama Vincie.
